§ 34-505. Blocks.

  • The length, width and shape of blocks shall be determined with due regard to the following:

    (1)

    The provision of adequate building sites suitable to the special needs of the type of use contemplated.

    (2)

    The zoning requirements as to lot size and dimensions.

    (3)

    The need for convenient access, circulation, control and safety of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

    (4)

    Limitations and opportunities of topography, including the following:

    a.

    Block lengths shall not exceed 1,320 feet between intersecting streets, except where special topographical conditions exist. Greater lengths may be approved by the village council.

    b.

    For blocks 900 feet or more in length, crosswalks between streets not less than eight feet wide may be required, where deemed essential, to provide circulation or access to schools, playgrounds, shopping areas, transportation and other community facilities.
