§ 58-14. Local preference.

Latest version.
  • The purpose of this section is to serve the public interest by spurring economic development through encouraging businesses to locate and remain in the county, especially the village. Local preference will be given to local businesses (entity or person) with a physical address within the village limits; second preference is within the county; and, third preference is within the state. Proof of the person's or entity's residency shall be a valid business tax receipt issued by the local government where the business is located. Application of the local preference policy shall be established by the finance department and/or in competitive selection documents.

Village staff are strongly encouraged to utilize local businesses for purchases that are anticipated to have a total value of less than $25,00.00 and for purchases made on the village's purchasing card.

However, in accordance with F.S. § 255.0991, as amended from time to time, for a competitive solicitation for construction services in which 50 percent or more of the cost will be paid from state-appropriated funds which have been appropriated at the time of the competitive solicitation, the village council may not apply this local bidder preference.
