§ 5.05. Elections.

  • Multiple candidates. When more than two persons [are] qualifying as candidates for any office, the persons so qualified shall be voted upon in the general election to be held on the second Tuesday in March, unless this date is required to be changed to a date concurrent with any countywide or statewide election. Such change in the election date shall be by ordinance as authorized by F.S. § 101.75, as amended from time to time. If any one candidate in the general election receives more than fifty percent of the votes cast for a designated seat, such candidate shall be declared elected without the necessity of being voted upon in the runoff election. If no one candidate receives more than fifty percent of the votes cast for a designated seat, the two persons receiving the highest number of votes cast for each designated seat of the village council shall be declared candidates for such designated seats and shall be voted upon at a runoff election to be held on the fourth Tuesday in March, and the person receiving the highest number of votes cast at such runoff election shall be declared elected.
