§ 5.07. Council districts; adjustment of districts.

  • (a)

    Number of districts. There shall be four village council districts, designated as districts 1, 2, 3 and 4.

    (b)

    The district boundaries shall be reapportioned based upon the official Florida state and federal census. The village council shall adopt an ordinance containing the reapportionment within six months of the date of official publication of the most recent official Florida state and federal census, beginning with the 2020 census. District boundaries shall be reapportioned to create districts of nearly equal population. Districts shall be arranged in a logical and compact geographic pattern and shall promote fair representation. Service boundaries of public facilities shall be considered.

    (c)

    Effect of enactment. The new council districts and boundaries, as of the date of enactment, shall supersede previous council districts and boundaries for the purposes of the next regular village election, including nominations. The new districts and boundaries shall supersede previous districts and boundaries for all other purposes as of the date on which all councilmembers take office, elected subsequent to the date the new districts went into effect.

    (d)

    No councilmember shall lose his/her position on the council due to redistricting until the expiration of his/her term.
